How to Take a Face Scan: Camera and Photo Tips

A useful comparison starts with a repeatable setup. You do not need a studio: keep the camera, angle, distance, and expression as consistent as you can.

Set up the front camera

Open Look Maximize in a current browser over HTTPS. Choose your scoring preset, age range, and permission to scan. Camera access begins when you start the scanner.

Keep one face in the frame, with the camera near eye level. Face it directly rather than turning toward your preferred side. Leave room around the face so the cheeks, chin, and upper face are not cut off.

  • Use even light that lets you see both sides of the face.
  • Keep the camera at a comfortable, consistent distance.
  • Relax your mouth and brows; look toward the lens.
  • Move hair away from landmarks you want measured.
  • Avoid beauty filters or a different camera setup between comparisons.

Capture and review

Tap the shutter to freeze a photo. The app analyzes that captured image, then shows a review. You can retake it before completing the report.

Confirm the visible central hairline when asked, or mark it unavailable. Guessing a point behind hair would add a measurement without evidence. Missing optional data can produce a score range instead of a final tier.

The optional side view

After the front scan, you can capture a side view or skip it. Follow the side guide and use the frozen image to confirm the visible outline.

The side view adds apparent profile observations. It does not change the front score, diagnose a recessed maxilla, or cost another credit within the same completed scan. For a later comparison, use the same side and similar head position.

What uses the free scan or a credit?

The allowance is used when you complete and save the report. A rejected capture does not use it. Retaking the photo before completion does not purchase another scan.

A completed partial report does use the allowance after confirmation. Deleting a saved report does not restore the free scan or a credit. Subscribers can complete unlimited scans during their paid period.

Where the photo goes

Camera photos and model inference stay on your device. Saving a report sends derived measurements and report context to the app, not the photo or video.

You can use the first scan without an account. Email login keeps the saved report with your account and lets you buy credits or subscribe. Your first free scan is carried across login rather than being reset.
